Influential people have been grabbing Dhawleshwari River side land and building brick fields defying environment law. The Asian Age Correspondent in a visit at Akbarnagar to Kuchia-mora area beside Dhaleshwari River found several brick fields have been established by grabbing river side land. They have been burning woods instead of coal and defying the environment law.

Local people said, brick field owners have good relation with local political leaders so none can interfere their works in the area. According to 2013, law 8(1) of brick field establishment none can establish brick field in residential area and in crops land.

On the other hand, according to Environment Reservation Law 6 (m), nobody can establish any brick field in watery area. But the brick field owners have been defying the both law at Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj.

The Asian Age Correspondent found that in Akbarnagar area of  Baluchar union, over 50 brick fields have been established on the both sides of Dhaleshwari River by grabbing Khas land.

Some brick fields owners put bricks, sand in the river and occupied river illegally. Last year Sirajdikhan upazila assistant commissioner (land) Nazrul Islam conducted a drive in the area and fined Tk 1 lakh to 'Mama Bhagina Brick Field'.

Fire service staff doused the fire of brick field and ordered to close that one. But after few days the brick field owner reopened the field defying the ban and law.

Sirajdikhan upazila assistant commissioner (land) Nazrul Islam said, in the meantime they have fined some brick fields. He said, he can not go to the brick field area brick field owners have submitted a writ to the High Court. But they are trying to take steps according to the state law, AC land added.
