26 arrested, drugs found in Dinajpur

Police, in special drives arrested 25 persons including two alleged drug peddlers and two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from different parts of the district during last 12-hours ending at 8am on Tuesday.

Law enforcers also recovered 219 pieces of Yaba tablets and 150 bottles of Phensidyl during the drives. Police said they were picked up from different areas of the district, reports BSS.

Dinajpur Sadar police arrested six persons, Birganj Thana police arrested four persons, Birampur Thana police arrested three persons, Hakimpur Thana police arrested two person, Khansama Thana police arrested two persons, Ghoraghat Thana police arrested two persons, Nawabganj Thana police arrested two persons, Bochaganj Thana police arrested two alleged drug peddlers with 219 pieces of Yaba tablets from Setabganj Sugar Mill area of the upazila and Chirirbandar Thana police arrested two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.

Meanwhile, members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive detained one drug peddler with 150 bottles of Phensidyl from Hili railway station in Hakimpur upazila of the district. Later, the arrested person was handed over to the Hakimpur Thana police, BGB said. The arrested people were sent to jail.
