"I started to have a problem with my eyesight when I was 5 years old - we had a simple test of copying whatever was written on the board in good handwriting…but I couldn't see anything so I failed.
I had a number of -0.75 since and it moved upto -6 over the years. I would often get complaints from my friends saying, 'we were calling out to you, but you didn't wave back at us' but truth is I hadn't seen them! The worst experience was probably when I was giving my CET to apply for my MBA - I had studied for a year before and during my exam, I knew all the answers but when I was going to mark the correct answer, my vision was so distorted - I was marking the wrong circle. I completely broke down, left my exam crying and got another eye test done - like the previous eye results they said there was nothing wrong.
Finally, one of the last few doctors I tried told me that I had a rare disorder called Retinitis Pigmentosa where I have partial vision…something that has no corrective measure.
It was after this whole process, that Nikhil reconnected with me. We went to school together, but we never really spoke and then one day randomly out of the blue he connected with me on Facebook. We started chatting and we didn't even realize when our conversations went from pleasantries to 5 hour phone conversations…we just clicked. (excerpt)
