Dharmo Sagor A lap of nature & beauty -The Asian Age

Dharmo Sagor or Dharma Sagor is a large dighi (pond) or lake located in Comilla City.  It is one of the lovely places in Comilla City. The area of Dharmo Sagor is 9.38 hectare.

The dighi was dug during the year 1714 - 1732 by Maharaj Dharmamanikya, the king of Tripura Kingdom from 1714 until 1733, to make water available to the local people. According to history, there was an island at the middle of the dighi at the begining.

At present, Comilla Stadium and Comilla Zilla School are located on the eastern bank of Dharmo Sagor. On the other hand, Comilla Municipal Park, Rani Kutir and Kazi Nazrul Islam memorial hall are on the north and Rajdevi Maternity and a Childcare Centre are situated on the southeast of Dharmasagar.

All of these historical marks have made this dighi/ pond and the Comilla City an attractive tourist spot. During the winter season, various migratory birds visit this spot. Thus the whole area holds a charming look at that time.

The municipal park is located on the North side of the pond.  Though the park is small but it is a very nice park that has made Dharmo Sagor a more beautiful place in Comilla city. The City Corporation has taken some steps recently for the beautification of the Park.

The bank of Dhorma Sagar is known as Dhormo Sagor Par. This is the best place for walk and passing time in Comilla city. Health conscious people from vicinity come here to have a walk every morning and afternoon.

People from all walks of life visit and spend their time on the bank of Dhorma Sagar regularly. Especially, in evening period thousands of people visit Dharmo Sagor as well as the park to enjoy the beauty of nature.
