Ustad Aashish Khan
Ustad Aashish Khan is a distinguished Sarode artist from India. He comes from a family of notable musicians in the realm of Indian classical music; he is the grandson of Ustad Allauddin Khan (was born in Shibpur, Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh)
son of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and nephew of Annapurna Devi. Khan was initiated to North Indian classical music by his grandfather and he continued his training under the guidance of his father and aunt.
Apart from a successful career in music as a performer and composer, Khan is also an adjunct professor of Indian classical music at the California Institute of the Arts, and the University of California at Santa Cruz, United States.
Besides his virtuosity as a traditional sarodist, Aashish was a pioneer in the establishment of world music genera, as founder of the Indo-American musical group "Shanti" in 1969/70 and later, fusion group, "The Third Eye"; and composed a Sarod Concerto in "raga" form.
With Pandit Rave Shankar, he has worked on many musical products for both film and stage, including Satyajit Rays's "Apur Sangsar", "Parash Pathar" and Sir Richard Attenborough's film "Gandhi".
He has also worked with Maurice Jarre on John Houston's film "The Man Who Would be King", David Lean's "A Passage to India", and composed the music for Tapan Sinha's films, "Joturgriha" and "Aadmi Aurat".
He has performed extensively in both India and abroad, with numerous distinguished artists which include John Barham, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, and many others. Khan is a recipient of the Fellowship of the Illinois Arts Council, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and a Grammy nomination.
He also became the first ever Indian classical maestro to become a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland in 2007.
Ustad Shahadat Hossain Khan
Ustad Shahadat Hossain Khan is presently one of the most celebrated Sarod players of Bangladesh, possessing a wide repertoire of classical instrumental music. Born in Comilla in 1958, he belongs to a family of illustrious musicians of Bangladesh and widely famous all over the world.He is the only son of Ustad Abed Hossain Khan and grandson of UstadAyet Ali Khan.
Shahadat was attracted to music, his family tradition, from his early boyhood. At the age of seven he started taking lesson on Sarod from his father. Later he became the disciple of his uncle UstadBahadur Khan, the celebrate Sarod player of the sub-continent. In 1972 Shahadat performed instrumental duet with his uncle UstadBahadur Khan at the 'Alauddin Music Conference' in Dhaka, which was highly lauded by audiences.
During extensive tour of India, with his father as a guest artist of All India Radio, he performed in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Srinagar & Delhi. Shahadat has the unique opportunity of participating in the 'All India Radio Music Conference' along with the famous exponents of classical music from all over India.
During his professional career, Shahadat has been honored with many distinguished awards. In 1974, in recognition of his talent, he was honored with the "State Award" for his excellent musical performance.
He received the award for best instrumental recital accorded by the Bangladesh "Film Producers Association" at the 'All India' (Nikhil) Bangladesh Music Conference in 1980. He was also awarded a Gold Medal for his performance organized by the 'All India'(Nikhil) Bangladesh Music Conference in 1983.
In 1990 he was honored with the Rotary Award (Buriganga) in recognition of his excellent performance on Sarod. In 1991, he was awarded by the ITC Provincial Music Academy Award and on the same year he performed solo and duet recitals in France with French musician Mr.Ebdutai for raising fund for the flood victims of Bangladesh.
Shahadat composed and directed music for the documentary films, "MrityheenPran", (Deeds remain immortal) and 'Meet Bangladesh'. Shahadat is a M.A.(Master of Arts) in History from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also obtained the degree "VadyaAlankar"( Ornament of Wisdom) in music from the "Ali Akbar College of Music", California, USA (the degree is a Bachelor of Music).
His first CD was released by Mehwish Enterprises Ltd. London, UK and his other CDs were released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Govt. of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and different prominent CD publishers. He is a regular artist of Bangladesh Radio, Bangladesh Television and other Bangladeshi private TV channels.
Ustad Yousuf Ali Khan
Yousuf Ali Khan was born in Comilla, Bangladesh, birthplace of many distinguished exponents of Indian Classical Music. Because of his exceptional feeling for rhythm, Yousuf's teacher, UstadAdilHussain had him concentrate on the Tabla at the age of 5.
His keen interest led him to leave home and study in Calcutta from Pandit Anil Bhattecherjee of LucknowGharawana. Yousuf's principle study of classical Tabla w...as from Guru Pandit Shankar Gosh of PurabGharawana in Calcutta for more than seven years, from 1977 to 1984 under a Government Scholarship of India. In Bangladesh, Yousuf played regularly for Bangladesh TV and Radio.
In 1984 he joined the faculty of the Leicestershire School of music in Leicester, England as a teacher of Tabla by the invitation of Leicester music service, to help set up South Asian music teaching in the city.
He has worked extensively as a teacher and performer ever since, and has been a core member of Grand Union orchestra in the UK for 25 years. He currently teaches tabla at Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets and at NewVIC sixth form college ,Newham, England.
Since coming to England, Yousuf has had concerts in a number of other countries such as USA, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Spain, Italy and Russia. He has also participated in various jazz music sessions. Currently he is working in the London Borough of Brent, Tower Hamlets, Enfield, as a specialist Tabla instructor. He is also associated with the Grand union Orchestra, a renowned Orchestra group of the UK.
Afsana Khan
Afsana Khan is the daughter of Ustad Shahadat Hossain Khan, who is one of the most reputed Sarod Player in this Sub-Continent, and Grand daughter of Late Ustad Abed Hossain Khan who was renowned for his Sitar Playing in the Sub-Continent. They hails from the legendary family of celebrity musician like Ustad Ayet Ali Khan.
Afsana was born at Dhaka in 1989, upholding the glorious family heritage, Afsana Khan started her musical carrier with Sitar.
Afsana was attracted to classical music from her early childhood due to family tradition. At the age of seven she started taking classical music lessons on Sitar from her father.
In 1997, on the occasion of their grand father's first death anniversary, she performed her first instrumental duet, with her twin sister Rukhsana Khan (Sarod) at German Cultural Centre, Dhaka.
Then on they have performed instrumental duet in most of the Major City's of Bangladesh. For their outstanding instrumental performance many a times they have been felicitated in various Places. They have played nationally and internationally.
On 2011, upon the joint invitation by Bangladesh embassy and United Nations they performed at Geneva on the occasion of 40th independence of Bangladesh and they have also performed at France, Qatar, Japan and Malaysia. Their first musical CD was released with their father naming, Ripples in the Midows.
Presently Afsana Khan is practicing as a lawyer and she has also completed her Masters on Business Administration. She is also an enlisted instrumental artist of Bangladesh Radio and Bangladesh Television.
Dishari Chakraborty
An International Award from Norway (OSLO) & President Scholarship holder from Govt. of India, Dishari Chakraborty's sensitivity led him to field of Fine Arts and finally, to the World of music, theatres & film. In his musical journey, he had begun as a Santoor soloist and then starts Music Composing, Sound Designing, as well as Visual Editing in Theatres, Dance productions, Documentary Film & Short films.
At the age of five, his mother bonded him to the guidance of late Prof.Dhyanesh Khan to learn santoor vadan in Senia Dhrupad style. At present, he is a disciple of Ustad Aashish Khan, grandson of legendary guru Achariya Baba Alauddin Khan and subsequently learning from MRS. AMEENA PERERA, daughter of legendary sarode maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
He composed music for several National & International Award Winning Film & Documentary like 'Dahleez Paar' - Produced by Docedge Japan in the year 2008, 'Still Voices' - Winner of Honorable Mention Student Film Los Angeles Reel Film Festival and Chris Awards in the year 2010
'Laal Juta' - Won National Award for Best Short Film and awarded Best Creative Idea at 11th Shanghai Film Fest, 'Nainsukh (2010)' - A Museum Rietberg Zurich production, Official Selection at Venezia Cinema 2010, Orizzonti Competition.He also honoured by an Especial Platinum Coin in the Celebration of 50Years by United Nation Organization in Korea.
In Theatre & Film he worked with Legendary Actor Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner Soumitra Chatterjee and Eminent Bengali play Writer-Director, Sri Bratya Basu, Tourism minister,Govt.of West Bengal.
Nishaant Singh
Nishaant Singh S/O Mardalaacharya Kaajee Singh is an upcoming Pakhawaj artiste born and brought up in the Musicians family. Nishaant belongs to a famous Traditional Folk Musical Family, carrying out the lineage since last four generations.
Nishaant started his Musical career with Tabla since childhood at the tender age of four under his father's guidance and also follows the same Folk singing tradition of his Family as well.
Nishaant has been guided by his father to accompany in light Aadhunik songs and started with his professional studio recording career at the age of 14 at Mumbai.
Later in future at the age of 17 Nishaant took his Tabla Taleem from Guru Late Shri Pratap Singh (A.I.R. Kerseong). Nishaant joined Visva-Bharati University and did his Degree in Tabla/Pakhawaj from the year 2003-2005 (B.Mus.)
2005-2007 (M.Mus.), where he had a wonderful opportunity to learn the Traditional Pakhawaj Parampara of Lala Keval Kishan Gharana under the guidance of Pandit Chanchal Kr. Bhattacharya since last 12 years; the oldest in India and the only Pakhawaj Tradition of Bengal.
Nishaant is an 'A' graded Pakhawaj artiste of Cine Musicians Association, Film Industry Mumbai as well as a Graded artiste of A.I.R. in Folk Song and Shree Maadal, He has been frequently performing Pakhawaj in DD Bharati and also playing in background score music for Bollywood and regional Films in different languages.
