A bus fell into a ditch as it collided head-on with a truck, leaving six passengers dead in Gaibandha.Four of the deceased were identified as Abdul Wahab Mandal, 48, Shapla Begum, 32, her son Al Amin, 6, Ashraful Islam, 25. The identities of the rest two were not available immediately. At least 20 others were injured in the accident occurred in Gobindaganj Upazila, said Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of the local highway police station.
He said the accident happened around 3:00am yesterday near Jummaghar's on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway. A truck carrying stone rammed into a bus heading toward Sayedpur, throwing it into a roadside ditch. Four passengers, including a child, died on the spot, said OC Bashar.
He said highway police patrol and the fire service rushed to the spot and sent the injured passengers to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex and the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra. One injured died at the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex in the morning. The death toll may yet rise, doctors said.
