Call to save Manpura Island -The Asian Age

A group of 28 rights based NGOs demanded immediate initiatives to save the Manpura Island from river erosion. They also demanded transparency and accountability of the Water Development Board (WDB) to the local people and local administration.

The NGO-activists formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club yesterday. It was moderated by Mustafa Kamal Akanda of COAST Trust.

The activists placed some demands including providing information about the WDB works, introducing complaint response mechanism, transparency in tender and purchase process and deployment army in construction if needed.
