Customs intelligence seized 10 gold bars weighing 1160 grams from a passenger of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Shahjalal International Airport yesterday. Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) director general Dr Moinul Khan said they held Md Abdul Momen when he arrived at the airport by BG-0122 flight from Muscat, Oman.
The flight reached Dhaka at 11am via Chittagong. "Acting on a tip-off, we started to follow Momen and searched him at the domestic arrival point. The customs officials seized 10 gold bars from his underwear," Khan told reporters. The market price of the gold bars is about Tk 58 lakh. Momen hails from Fatikchhari, Chittagong.
100 iPhone sets seized:
In separate raids at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex and Moli Capital Centre in the city, customs intelligence seized over 100 iPhone sets. A team of CIID, BTRC representatives and Dhaka Metropolitan Police led by CIID assistant director Sahiduzzaman conducted the raid.
