Ittefaq editor in-charge faces arrest warrant -The Asian Age


A Rajbari court has ordered to issue an arrest warrant against Daily Ittefaq's editor-in-charge Tasmima Hossain in connection with a defamation case filed by Awami League's publications and campaign secretary for Kalukhali upazila of Rajbari district Mizanur Rahman Majnu.

According to allegations from Mizanur Rahman Majnu, Daily Ittefaq published a fabricated news about him which is why he has lodged a defamation case of half crore taka against Daily Ittefaq. 

Main accused of the case Daily Ittefaq's staff reporter Mehedi Hasan appeared before Rajbari court on December 5 and applied for bail which was granted by Senior Judicial Magistrate Farhad Mamun.

On the other hand, arrest warrant against Daily Ittefaq's editor-in-charge Tasmima Hossain has been issued reportedly because she did not appear before the court.

Reports show that Daily Ittefaq published a news item on March 22, this year about alleged torment on  minorities, tender mishandling and some more issues involving some ministers and members of parliament as a result of which a defamation case was registered against the newspaper's staff reporter Mehedi Hasan and editor in charge Tasmima Hossain by local Awami League leader Mizanur Rahman Majnu.

Sources from Rajbari have informed that an investigation over the case was carried out by senior assistant police super Fazlul Karim which was submitted to court on May 31. The investigation report contained evidences showing use of false statements in the concerned news item published by Daily Ittefaq, relevant sources have said.
