Discounts galore at DITF A huge number of visitors thronged the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) yesterday. -Jahidul Islam

Different firms participating at the ongoing Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) have virtually engaged in a competition of offering discounts with a view to attracting the customers.  Discounts vary from 5 to 100 (buy one, get one) percent of the fair. Some companies have arranged lotteries. At their own costs, many companies are supplying goods from fair to the doors of consumers in the capital city. Organizers said the trade fair has created several thousand part time jobs for the students which will help them gain job experience before the completion of their studies.

About seven thousand students have got jobs at different stalls at the month-long international event. Most of the employees are students, who are working as sales persons.  Kamruzzaman Kamal, Director of PRAN-RFL Group told The Asaian Age on Friday, every year thousands of unemployed youths get jobs at country's largest trade fair which help them gather experience.

He further said, most of the participating companies at DITF have recruited manpower as sales executives. Most of the employees are yet to complete their study. According to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), over 7000 youths have been recruited at DITF. Each participating company has averagely appointed 10 to 12 persons. Uday Hakim, senior operative director of Walton Group said part-time job at DITF is a blessing for students as they get opportunity to gain experience.

At the same time. It is a great opportunity for them to mix up with senior professionals, which will help them get better jobs in future.  Like previous years, India, Pakistan, China, Malaysia, Iran, Thailand, US, Turkey, Singapore, Australia, Britain, South Korea, Germany, Nepal, Hong Kong, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, Ghana, Morocco and Bhutan has taken part in the fair this year. According to EPB sources, there are arrangements of mother and children centre, children park, e-park, ATM booth at the fair.

Stalls displaying ready-made  garments, home textiles, fabric, handicrafts, jute and jute goods, household and gifts, leather and leather products, crackers, ceramic, Plastic, polymer products, cosmetics, herbal and cosmetic products, food and food products, electric and electronics products, imitation and jewellery, construction materials and furniture are drawing visitors.
