Cold wave scenario in Nilphamari district has shown little improvement even though situation has seen marked improvement in most other parts of the country in the last couple of days.
On Wednesday the lowest temperature in the district was recorded at 6.2 degree Celsius. The number of children and women getting admitted to healthcare centers with cold-induced diseases is increasing every day.
A rural fisherman named Abdul Mazid, 38, son of late Khobir Mamud of Koga Khoribari village under Dimla upazila of the district said, "The present weather condition has paralyzed the normal life in the area and low-income people, particularly day-laborers, are being compelled to stay at home due to bone-chilling weather."
"Children and elderly persons are being affected by different cold-related diseases in the area. The cold wave has hit the rural areas on Teesta basin most", he added. When contacted, Dr. Asad Alam, medical officer of the Modern Sadar Hospital, Nilphamari told the Asian Age, "The patients are suffering mostly from cold, diarrhea, fever, feverish, catarrh etc and the number of patients is increasing every day as the weather is not showing improvement."
