Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has called on private entrepreneurs and benevolent individuals to come forward to contribute in disseminating knowledge among the people from all walks of life.
The minister said those yesterday while attending the 17th Convocation of East West University (EWU) at Aftabnagar in Dhaka. A total of 1,840 undergraduate and graduate students were conferred degrees and three of them were awarded the prestigious gold medals by the minister.
The convocation speaker, Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University, Dr Anisuzzaman lamented that human values are deteriorating at a fast pace all around the world. Therefore, he urged the young graduates to act sensibly and work towards creating a tolerant society.
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of EWU and former governor of Bangladesh Bank, Dr Mohammed Farashuddin and the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Dr MM Shahidul Hasan also spoke on the occasion.
The members of the Board of Trustees, the Treasurer, Deans, chairpersons of the departments, teachers, staff, graduating students and their parents attended the convocation ceremony.
