Some 13 people were injured as the car used by Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith rammed devotees in front of a mosque at Sonarpara of Raynagar in Sylhet city yesterday. The accident took place while minister was meeting with devotees after Jumma prayers. As the driver was driving the car to the side of the mosque that time, he lost the control and the brake of the car was failed as well. Some leaders of Sylhet district and city got seriously injured in the incident.
Confirming the incident, Sylhet city Awami League Publicity Secretary Abdur Rahman Jamil said, the minister escaped the accident by the grace of Almighty Allah. But he got slightly injured as he fell on the ground. The injured were admitted at Osmani Medical College Hospital.
On information, high officials of metropolitan police including Kotwali Police Station visited the spot. The officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station said, when the driver of the car asked about the accident, he said that he suddenly lost the control of the car as the brake was not working which caused the occurrence of the accident. However, police is investigating into the matter.
