Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Monday said the personal officer (PO) of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Education Ministry staff and Lakehead Grammar School owner were arrested based on specific information.
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested missing Lakehead Grammar School owner Khaled Hasan Motin, PO of Nurul Islam Nahid, Motaleb Hossain and the Education Ministry staff Nasir Uddin from different places of the city on Sunday night.
Talking to reporters while visiting a Puja Mondop at Rajdhani High School of Manik Mia Avenue, the minister said, "DB men arrested the trio based on specific information." Earlier, Motaleb Hossain, personal officer (PO) of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, had reportedly gone missing from the capital on Saturday. Motaleb's brother filed a general diary with Hazaribagh Police Station in this regard.
Lakehead Grammar School owner Khaled Hasan Motin also reportedly went missing on Saturday. Nasir Uddin, an upper-division clerk of Education Ministry repor-tedly went missing from the city on Thursday afternoon. Nayem Ahmed Julhas, brother-in-law of the victim, filed a general diary (GD) with Banani Police Station in this connection.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid says legal steps will be taken against the two education ministry officials detained by the law enforcers. "Law enforcers have detained them so there must be allegations," he told the media at the Secretariat on Monday, reports bdnews.
"The allegations will be proven in court and they will be punished accordingly. We will take steps against them according to our system." The education minister's personal officer Motaleb Hossain and ministry staffer Nasir Uddin were reported missing before police announced that they were in custody on Sunday.
Concerns over their "disappearances" are over and the matter is now up to law enforcers, he said. "Law enforcers have some reason for detaining them-whether it is corruption or some other crimes." Motaleb's family filed a general diary claiming he had been abducted by a group from Gulshan on Saturday. Nasir disappeared after going to the Banani area on Thursday, his family told police. He said the police found Tk 130,000 in cash on Nasir.
Police also announced the arrest of Lakehead Grammar School owner Khaled Hasan Matin. Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Abdul Matin said Motaleb and Nasir were detained on charges of corruption while Khaled stands accused of funding militancy. An education ministry official told bdnews24.com that Motaleb and Nasir were involved in arranging the paperwork on the opening of Lakehead and the education board.
"The government will move against them if they have taken bribes or committed some other offence," the education minister said. "Legal proceedings will be followed. If they are the perpetrators we will deal with them according to regulations." Nahid said he would not be helping his personal officer.
