State Minster for Local Government, Rural Develop-ment and Cooperatives Alhaj Mashiur Rahman Ranga on Tuesday said the boosting livestock sector is effectively cutting poverty in rural areas. "The present government has achieved a huge success in meeting nutritional demand of the population by increasing meat, fish, milk and egg production," Ranga said at a discussion held at Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest.
Lauding the huge success achieved in the livestock sector, the chief guest called for further boosting production in the sector for meeting protein demand of the population to build a middle income healthier nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041, reports BSS.
The District Department of Livestock Services (DLS) organized the discussion in observance of the Livestock Service Week-2018 in the city. The chief guest also inaugurated a daylong 'Livestock Technology Fair 2018' on the Public Library ground Earlier, Ranga led a colorful rally participated by officials and employees of DLS and other departments, socio-cultural and political activists and farmers.
Different government departments, entrepreneurs, service providers and companies set up 36 stalls in the fair demonstrating technologies on livestock, vaccines, fodders, poultry, grass cultivation and marketing of the products.
With Rangpur Divisional Deputy Director of the DLS Agriculturist Mahbubur Rahman in the chair, Chairman of Zila Parisahd Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduz-zaman, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, President of city Awami League Shafiur Rahman Shafi and its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, addressed the discussion as special guests.
