BNP leaders express worries

Khaleda's prison life may linger

Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia may not get released soon as it is taking time reportedly to get the certified copy of the verdict which sentenced her to five years imprisonment on Zia Orphanage Trust corruption charges. Khaleda Zia's lawyers are not being able to apply for her appeal and bail for this reason, BNP leaders have informed. BNP leaders are highly worried about this phenomenon, political sour-ces have stated.

Khaleda Zia has been shown arrested on some more cases which may delay her release on bail, BNP leaders and activists have expressed such concern. BNP's joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvy told journalists on Monday at a press conference in BNP's Naya Paltan office in the capital,

"The government is hatching conspiracies one after another to delay Khaleda Zia's release. She is being shown arrested for different cases for the same reason." The government wants to prolong Khaleda Zia's imprisonment which is why she is being entangled with various cases, Ruhul Kabir Rizvy further said on Monday.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvy told reporters, "The government has jailed Khaleda Zia over false corruption charges. Awami League wants to retain power by another manipulated election." BNP would continue its demonstrations until  Khaleda Zia is released, Ruhul Kabir Rizvy said during Monday's press conference.

No election  would be allowed to be held in the country without Khaleda Zia, he added.  Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Iftekhar Uddin has reportedly informed media that Khaleda Zia has been shown arrested for three cases with Comilla, Tejgaon and Shahbagh police stations.  BNP's lawyers are preparing to apply for Khaleda Zia's bail, the party's leaders have cited to reporters.
