Many places and relics of historical interests are kept uncared for all across the country, which if taken proper care could be turned into popular tourist spots and thus the histories behind them could be kept alive.
The Majidpur Zamindar Bari at Titas in Comilla district is one such relic that do not only bear the mark of great craftsmanship and the skill of the construction workers of the time they were built but are also a unique symbol of the country's rich architectural heritage.
Majidpur Zamindar Bari is situated 3 kilometers west of Titas upazila Sadar, 10 kilometers north of Homna-Gauripur road on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and 50 kilometers away from Comilla City.
It is said that movement of public wearing shoes and umbrellas was prohibited in front of the zamindar bari. The landlords considered public walk with shoes and umbrella as an insult to them. But today the nobility is just a nude history.
It is known that at beginning of the English rule, the Jaigirdari system (lordship) was given to the elite Hindus in this region. The local landlords of Titas that was originally a Muslim dominated area were also brought under the control of Hindu land lords of Sonargaon.
However, the inscriptions of the Hindu landlord's house of Majidpur of Titas still exist. There were a total of 17 buildings here. But four have already been broken down. There are a dighi and 20 ponds in the vicinity of the land lord house.
Local people say that after the partition of India, the local landlords left the country leaving their homes. At present, all the buildings are on the brink of ruination but still contain lots of arts. There are tunnels in between the buildings.
