Drishtipat Natyadal, one of the prominent theatre troupes in the country, will stage the 40th show of its acclaimed play Raja Himadri today evening at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in Segun Bagicha of the capital at 7pm.
The play, which is the 21st production of Drishtipat, has been adapted from the Greek classic "Oedipus" by Sophocles and is directed by Dr Khandaker Tazmi Noor.
Raja Himadri tells the story of King Himadri, a sympathetic and arrogant leader who was in search of his real identity. Himadri, the king of Himalayans, who ascends the throne after the killing of Chadnrashekher, is accepted as her husband by Indrani, the Queen of the Himalayans.
King Himadri and his wife Himrani lives happily together until a stranger arrives one day and discloses Himadri's dark secret. The secret opens a bleak chapter in the royal couple's life and finally separates them. The King Himadri seeks the answer to the question "who am I and where have I come from?" and becomes haunted when he encounters the truth.
The cast of the play includes Khandaker Tazmi Noor, Marjana Borsha, Abdul Halim Aziz, Jahangir Kabir Bokul and Sreya Khandaker, among others.
