Heatwaves, floods, storms forecast
With the summer officially a few days away, the weather watchers have forecast a turbulent April as Bangladesh is likely to experience heatwaves, flash floods and storms, including cyclone.

In the outlook for April, the Met office says one or two lows may set in over the Bay of Bengal.

"One of these depressions can turn into a cyclonic storm," the Meteorological Department has warned.

It says mild to intense nor’westers may hit the northern and central regions for two to three days while the other regions may experience mild to moderate thunderstorms for four to five days.

Besides heatwaves all over the country, flash floods may hit the hilly areas by the end of the month, according to the outlook.

Meteorologist Omar Faruq told media on Friday it may rain more than normal in the April with "heatwaves in intermissions".

The Met office said the north and northwest regions may experience an acute heatwave with the temperature likely to soar over 40˚ Celsius.

One or two mild heatwaves with temperature between 36˚ and 38˚ Celsius or moderate heatwaves with temperature from 38 ˚to 40˚ Celsius may hit the other regions.

In the northeast, the flash floods from the upstream may take place by the end of April, the meteorologist said.
