Today is the 47th death anniversary of freedom fighter and intellectual Lt Col Muhammad Abdul Qadir, who embraced martyrdom in 1971. A milad mahfil will be held today at the Qadirabad Cantonment Central Mosque for the peace of the departed soul, says a press release.
The Qadirabad Cantonment in Natore district was named after him for his role in the Liberation War. The government also issued a postal stamp of him as one of the martyred intellectuals. Qadir's grave was found in 2007 and he was reburied with full state and military honor in 2011 at Qadirabad Cantonment. He is the father of eminent journalist Nadeem Qadir, currently the Roving Editor of The Asian Age.
