BNP concerned about Khaleda’s health condition

BNP on Wednesday voiced concern over Khaleda Zia’s life as the party alleged that its chairperson is not given proper treatment in jail as part of a ‘conspiracy’.

“Khaleda was sent to jail for political reasons. They (govt) are not allowing her to receive treatment as part of a plot. They themselves are doing politics over her illness, but asking us not to do politics over it,” said BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

He came up with the allegation at a discussion programme arranged by Arafat Rahman Koko Smriti Sangsad at the Jatiya Press Club, demanding Khaleda’s release from jail.

Khosru alleged that the government is trying to restore one-party rule in the country by eliminating its opponents. “They want to remove the option for electing government through voting.”

Earlier, speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Khaleda’s health condition is gradually deteriorating as she is not given any treatment in jail.

He said it seems that the jail authorities are buying time to provide treatment to the BNP chief as part of a deep-rooted conspiracy. “Under the circumstances, we’re deeply concerned about the life of our leader,” the BNP leader added.

He came down heavily on Health Minister Mohammad Nasim for what he said spreading blatant lies over their Chairperson’s treatment.

“The jail authorities are yet to take any step to ensure the treatment of our leader, but the health minister said Khaleda Zia has been given proper treatment with due respect. This is a blatant lie,” the BNP leader said.

He renewed their party’s demand for allowing Khaleda to receive treatment at United Hospital in the capital by her personal physicians.
