Ousted cricketers from BCB central contract looked determined to overcome the present crisis by making a comeback in the national set-up on the back of consistent performance as they believe there is no other way out.BCB on Wednesday decided to include only 10 cricketers in the central contracts list, and ousted six in the shape of pacer Taskin Ahmed, batsman Sabbir Rahman, opener Soumya Sarkar, all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain, pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi and top-order batsman Imrul Kayes.
The decision to trim the national contract list left many astonished as it was the first time BCB opted to reduce it in such margin while BCB president Nazmul Hasan informed that exclusion of the six cricketers from the central contracts list was based on performance.
According to the BCB boss pace bowler Taskin along with all-rounder Sabbir and opener Soumya have been at the centre of discussions over their respective pale patches while Imrul, Mosaddek and Kamrul could not make the cut as they were irregular in the national team.
Mossadek seized the first available opportunity by hitting a century in the ongoing fifth round of Bangladesh Cricket League, country's lone franchise based longer version cricket tournament while others looked eagerly waiting for their turn to showcase their talent.
Though none were ready to accept that they are playing for the sake of receiving a slot in the national contract list, it was evident through their voice that they were hurt to say the least and looked like wounded Tigers.'Missing out on the central contract is a lesson for me and I will try to become more consistent, be it in the national team or in the domestic circuit, and look to earn that [contract] back with my performance in the coming days,' Mossadek told Asian Age after scoring the ton.
Mosaddek can claim to be unlucky perhaps as he got very few opportunities since making his Test debut with a fifty against Sri Lanka in March last year as was hit hard during most of 2017 with an eye infection - missing the home series against Australia and the tour of South Africa.
The 22-year old looked firm about his focus to make a sound statement and it was evident through the example he left during making the hundred.'I was not supposed to bat Friday as I injured my left shoulder. I had to rush to the hospital for X-Rays and there was also some pain. I was a bit worried as I heard a sound during the impact. But next day I had to bat as my team was in a difficult situation; the team management asked me to just go and hang in,' said Mossadek.
'Initially I tried to stay at the crease but when my body warmed up I started playing my shots. My main aim was not to give my wicket away and look for singles and doubles and in the process I reached my hundred,' he added. While Mossadek proved a point, pace bowler Taskin said that he is gaining confidence after being backed by national ODI skipper Mashrafee bin Mortaza, who urged everyone to back the youngster as they are the future generation.
Soumya added philosophically that it is all part and parcel of being a professional cricketer and it is their duty to perform to avoid such incidents in future.Imrul and Kamrul echoed the same sentiment while Sabbir Rahman is waiting for the ban to be lifted that he received by BCB for disciplinary purpose and make sure he can make full use of the available opportunity.
