Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharaf Hossain has said the government has in-principle taken a decision to form a division named Padma with Faridpur region and the headquarters of the new division will be in Faridpur.
The minister said this at a swearing-in ceremony of newly elected chairmen, members and reserved female members of 11 union councils of Faridpur Sadar upazila in Faridpur town yesterday. Khandaker Mosharaf said, "BNP is spreading there is no democracy in the country. The free, fair and peaceful elections in 11 unions of Faridpur upazila on March 29 have proved whether there is democracy in the country or not."
"We have to come out of this tendency of saying fair if we win in elections and alleging of rigging in case of defeat," he added.The LGRD Minister said, "All candidates will get equal rights in elections in future, none will be intercepted. Those who have won in the elections will get equal facilities. The winning female candidates should work with efficiency."
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umme Salma Tanjia presided over the function while Sadar UNO Provangshu Som Mohan delivered the welcome speech.Faridpur Police Super Md Jakir Hossain Khan, Sadar Upazila Chairman Khandaker Mohtesam Hossain, Sadar Upazila Awami League President Abdur Razzaque Molla also addressed the program.
