Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said agricultural scientists have been playing significant role to attain the country's food-sufficiency. "The country has now achieved self sufficiency in food production because of new crop varieties invented by the agricultural scientists," he said this while speaking as the chief guest at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka on Saturday.
Alumni Association of the university organized an installation ceremony of its newly elected committee and reunion with Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed in the chair.Nahid said the present government's time-befitting initiatives, incentives and trainings along with farmers' hard working resulted attaining food sufficiency in the country.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina transformed 'Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture College' as university in 2001. Currently, around 3,000 students have been studying here," Nahid said. The minister, however, said infrastructure development works of the university have been implementing with Taka 352.68 crore.
