Actor Kazi Asif sent to jail for torturing wife
A tribunal on Monday sent actor Kazi Asif Rahman to jail in a case filed for torturing his wife over dowry.Shafiul Azam, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2, passed the order when police produced him before the court.
The court also fixed April 25 for hearing his bail petition.Earlier, on Sunday, police arrested Asif from the Airport area, said Mahfuzur Rahman Patwari, counsel of plaintiff Manisa Akter.
On March 3 last, Manisa Akter filed the case against the actor on charge of torturing her for dowry.Taking cognizance of the complaint, the court had summoned Asif on the same day.
His wife Mimah Shah Aroni complained that Asif was physically torturing her and not giving her the respect she deserves as a wife. "He was not giving me or our child the rights we deserved.
He even physically tortured me couple of times. I was kind of forced to file a case against Asif under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on March 3," she added.
Asif and Aroni married in 2015. They have a daughter. Asif rose to prominence by appearing in several advertisements. He also gained widespread media attention after starring in the telefilm "Ghashful" by Impress Telefilm.
