The Ledger of Life

After all these years
When I ope
The ledger of life
All I find
Is some pages blank.
Memories of years
Spent in sheer futility
Of a life with its branches cut
That might have grown full straight
Like it happened to Faustus.
Then when Lucifer arrives
To take the damned soul away
It begins to long for a second chance.
But by then it is too late
And the soul resigns to fate.
