BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said the election in Khulna City Corporation has proved that no credible election can be held under the present government.
"No election will be allowed to be held without the release of Khaleda Zia from jail. No election can be held in a free, fair and credible manner under the present government and that has been proven through the Khulna city polls," Fakhrul said.
Fakhrul also termed the Election Commission (EC) as "failed and ineligible" and bitterly criticized it for its utter failure in holding the city polls in a free and fair.
Claiming that police and the ruling party men have driven out BNP's polling agents and cast votes for their candidate, Fakhrul called upon the government to dissolve the parliament and hold talks for holding the next general election in a fair manner.
The BNP leader was addressing a post polls press conference at the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office in Dhaka.
