The Sylhet unit of Bangladesh Tea Workers Federation is demanding Tk 300 as the daily wage of tea workers. The Federation leaders came up with the demand at a rally and procession organized at Shaheed Minar marking 'Tea Workers Day' on Sunday in the city.
During the rally, the workers leaders said although 97 years have passed since the historic May 20, 1921 when a thousand tea workers died protesting but tea workers still suffer from repressions and oppressions.
When the market price of a kilogram of rice is now Tk 45, tea workers get only Tk 85 as daily wage, they said.
