"Since I was a child, my father and I had the best relationship. We were poles apart -- he was a typical businessman and I was a rebellious artist! My sisters and I were raised to be 'men' of the household -- independent, strong and smart.
He didn't care about us getting married, we were always told to focus on making something of ourselves. Driven by his energy, I became a topper at school, but maintained my identity. I spent my days drawing and dreaming...while he worked on building his empire.
A few days before I graduated, he came into my room looking tired and worn out. I immediately said, 'take a break papa' to which he said, 'I love this business, I think you'll love it too -- why don't you give it a try?' I don't know why, but I immediately agreed to go to office after graduation -- I'll never forget the smile on his face, he was so happy.
That's the last memory we shared-- without any warning, he passed away of a cardiac arrest the next morning. All our lives were turned upside down; I lost my hero overnight. Even though I was grieving, the promise I made him fueled a fire inside me. (excerpt)
