Brahmaputra rises further in Gaibandha
The Brahmaputra, one of the mighty rivers of the country flowing through the district, registered a further rise in last 24 hours till 9 am today.

officials of Bangladesh Water Development Board said water level of the river rose by 2 cm during the period due to on rush of hilly waters from the upstream and incessant rainfall in the last few days.

The river Brahmaputra was flowing 21 cm below its danger mark at Fulchharighat point of the district this morning.

If the rising trend continued, the river would cross its danger level shortly inundating the low lying areas of the district, said an official.

On the other hand, with the rise of water level, the river erosion has taken a serious turn at Goghat, Purba Batikamari, Perdiara, Kharzani and Raidashbari areas of Kamarjani union of Sadar upazila.

Local sources said 97 families of the areas have already become homeless due to the river erosion.

Talking to the BSS, Deputy Commissioner Goutam Chandra Pal said the district administration was monitoring the situation closely and seriously.
