Speakers urged the government to establish rule of law putting a bar on extrajudicial killing. At a roundtable, they said: "The war on drug have killed many people without any trial. We demand to disclose the details of the deceased."
They came up with the call while addressing the program at the Jatiya Press Club yesterday. Jahangirnagar University Prof M Nurunnabi said: "Although it is said that Bangladesh is a democratic country, it's not." Doubting the outputs of the anti-drug countrywide operation, he said the government is not bringing the main culprits to book.
Meantime, Prof CR Abrar shed light on the attacks on quota protestors and commented: "As a teacher, I'm embarrassed. The students are to butter up political leaders to stay at their dorms." Historian Badruddin Umar presided over the talk which was attended by Prof Akram Hossen, leader Saiful Haque, Shirin Haque, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and Binjan Chakma.
