Online system launched to disburse rural loans


The farmers would be able to apply for agriculture and rural credits without physically visiting the banks or other relevant offices now as the application and disbursement process of the loans came under the online system yesterday.

The Access to Information (a2i) program, Bangladesh Bank (BB) and Agrani Bank Limited jointly launched a "Simplified Service for Agricultural and Rural Credit" project at the central bank headquarters in the city, said a press release.

BB's Deputy Governor S M Moniruzzaman inaugurated this service as the chief guest at the function while Channel i Director Shykh Seraj, Agrani Bank Limited Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Shams-Ul Islam and BB Executive Director Ashok Kumar Dey were present.

Joint Secretary and Project Director of a2i Program M Mustafizur Rahman chaired the function. Under the new project, all scheduled bank officials, relevant officials at the district and upazila levels and union digital center entrepreneurs in Chattogram have already received training on how to operate this system.
