Bangladesh cricket went into a shock with the revelation of some seniors not interested to play Test cricket with the core group led by none other than Test skipper Sakib al Hasan.
Bangladesh president Nazmul Hasan said on Friday that they are considering for a new set-up in the Test squad as lot of cricketers are not keen to carry on in the longer format. Nazmul revealed it in-front of the reporter at his home town saying that among them there is skipper Sakib al Hasan along with some leading cricketers like Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain.
Bangladesh Cricket operation chairman Akram Khan on Saturday looked to be in a total state of shock when his attention was drawn regarding the entire episode. Not only did the news got carried in most of the leading dailies front page but it looked to have a huge impact in the social media as well.
''I have not seen any such thing,'' Akram told reporters on his instant reaction that never looked to be convincing. ''He did not say it himself [isn't it],'' he added. ''I am not aware what the BCB president said but as far as I am concerned he is our Test skipper and a very important part of our team,'' he said. ''We must make sure all the important players play in every format of the game,'' he added.
Sakib had already took a sabbatical from Test for six months citing fatigue and later BCB appointed him as the Test skipper that according to many was a decision taken only to make sure that he is available for Test cricket. ''Now in our country, I see that some of our senior players are not interested in playing Test cricket,'' said Nazmul said earlier that sparked the fire in the cricket fraternity of the country.
''I mean to say like Sakib [al Hasan] doesn't want to play Test cricket,'' he said. ''Mustafiz[ur Rahman] doesn't want to play Test. He doesn't say that he won't play Test matches but he tries to avoid it. It may be because of he often get injured and he may have the feelings that he probably may get injured while playing Tests again,'' he said.
''Now what happened many of them don't want to play Test because it is also very hard to play. Rubel is one of our experienced players and he is serving the team for a while so there is chance that the Test cricket has gone difficult for them. So we have to bring new players from the younger generation,'' he added.
Nazmul also see a very bleak future of Test as countries have started to develop a mind-set that they are ready to avoid it as it is not worthy investment. ''It is true that apart from Australia and England, all other countries along with ICC, I don't see anyone interested in playing Test cricket,'' said Nazmul.
''As a board only they [Australia, England] are interested. It's also because our broadcasters are totally uninterested in Test matches as it attracted less audience and because of that they are uninterested about it'' he said. ''So that is one issue,'' he added.
