At least four people have been killed in gunfights amid the on-going drug crackdown across the country. Police said two drug-traders, one each in Kushtia and Chapainawabganj, were killed in drug raids by security forces while two others in Dinajpur and in Cox's Bazar, were killed in gunfights between two gangs of drug traders.
'Drug traffickers' have been allegedly killed in 'shootouts' nearly every night since security forces launched an anti-drug campaign in May.About 200 people have been killed in similar incidents since the start of the crackdown. A man identified as Sham, 38, a resident of Khemirdiar area in Bherama upazila of Kushtia district was killed in an alleged shootout with police.
He was accused in eight narcotics cases at Bheramara Police Station, said local OC Aminul Islam. Police conducted a raid in the early hours of Saturday in the Bakapul Chardamukdia area after receiving reports that drug dealers were operating in the area, he said.The drug dealers opened fire on police. Sham was shot when police fired back. He was taken to Bharamara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead, police said.
Four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were injured in the gunfight, the OC said. A shotgun, two bullets, two bullet shells and 500 yaba pills were recovered from the spot, he added.Another man was killed in an alleged 'shootout' with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chapainawabganj.The shootout took place at around 1:30 am in Mollan area of Sadar upazila on Saturday, said Abu Khayer, Deputy Commander of Chapainawabganj RAB-5 Camp.
The drug dealers opened fire on RAB when the team reached the area to conduct a raid there. The criminals fled when RAB fired back. A man who was found injured in the gunfight was rushed to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Lethal weapons, bullets and Phensedyl were also recovered from the spot, the Deputy Commander said.
A man was allegedly killed in a 'gunfight' between two gangs of drug dealers in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district.The incident occurred in Barnirhat area of Belaichandi union around 3am on Saturday, said OC Habibul Haque of Parbatipur police station.
After the gunfight, police found drug-dealer Abdul Karim lying injured. He died while being taken to hospital.A shotgun along with a round of bullet, some yaba pills and a few bottles of Phensedyl were found in Karim's possession. He was accused in several anti-narcotics cases, the OC said.

Two gangs of drug traffickers locked in a clash on Lama-Alikadam road early Saturday, said Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury, chief of Chakaria Police Station.
