BNP Senior Joint General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that the party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is 'critically ill'. While she usually talks to visitors downstairs in her prison quarters, of late she has not been able come down there from upstairs owing to illness.
She is even now at health risk and faces difficulties in her physical movements. Rizvi was speaking at a press conference at the BNP central office in the city yesterday. Elaborating on the health condition of Khaleda Zia, the BNP leader said, "Lawyers and family members met Khaleda Zia in prison on Saturday.
Her health condition has worsened. The vengeance of the ruling party on Khaleda Zia conveys a message of misrule."Condemning the insensitive attitude of the government toward the former prime minister, he urged the government to arrangement treatment for the BNP chief at United Hospital.
About the elections in three city corporations, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the law enforcers have been arresting leaders and activists of the BNP in a wholesale manner in the areas under the city corporations concerned.
He alleged that the candidates of the ruling Awami League have no public support, but the law enforcing agencies, local administration and Election Commission (EC) officials are out to make the Awami League candidates win in the city corporation elections.
BNP Vice Chairman M A Mannan, Chairperson's adviser Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Publication Secretary Habibul Islam Habib and Joint Organizing Secretary Abdus Salam Azad were present at the press conference.
