Trade ties to grow with UK: Tofail Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed exchanging views with visiting British MP Rushnara Ali at his residence in the capital yesterday. -AA

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday urged Britain to continue the exiting trade facilities to Bangladesh even after Brexit.The minister made the call while exchanging views with visiting British Member of Parliament Rushnara Ali at his residence in city's Banani, said a ministry release, reports BSS. 

Mentioning that Britain is an important trade partner for Bangladesh, he said both the countries are eager to expand the existing trade and business to a new height. Referring to Bangladesh's graduation from LDCs, Tofail said: "We will no longer enjoy the GSP facilities after the graduation. That is why we are expecting GSP Plus facilities from Britain."

Britain is the third largest export destination for Bangladeshi products and the bilateral trade has reached $ 4 billion.Expressing her country's pleasure seeing Bangladesh's quick development, Rushnara Ali said British businessmen and entrepreneurs are keen to invest further in the country as Britain is a development partner of Bangladesh.

"It is possible to increase the existing trade, business and investment through collaboration and endeavor of the two countries," she said.Rushnara told the commerce minister that her country is interested to invest in readymade garments, energy and few other developing sectors.
