The 93rd birth anniversary of Tajuddin Ahmad, Prime Minister of Bangladesh's wartime provisional government during the Liberation War in 1971, will be observed today in a befitting manner.The Liberation War Museum is organizing a week-long programme titled 'Tajuddin Ahmad: Works and Life' to mark the day.
The programmes include discussions, exhibition and reading of the letters of the nation's wartime leader. The week-long programmes will be inaugurated at 5 pm. Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam will deliver a speech on Tajuddin Ahmad on the opening day.
Besides, artist Syed Shahidul Islam will read out the speeches of Tajuddin and students of University of Liberal Arts and Daffodil University will perform at a cultural function.On the other hand, Tajuddin Ahmad Smriti Parishad will organize a discussion and milad mahfil at Tajuddin's village in Kapashia in Gazipur marking the day.
Tajuddin Ahmed was a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He served as General Secretary of the Awami League in the heady days of the Six Point movement leading up to the War of Liberation. He organized political and battlefield resistance against the Pakistan occupation army through forming the Mujibnagar government in April 1971.
Following liberation, he served as Minister for Finance and Planning. In October 1974 he resigned from the government. Following the violent coup of August 1975, he was arrested along with three other national leaders by the usurper regime. All four men were murdered in Dhaka Central Jail on 3 November 1975.
Tajuddin was born in Kapashia in Gazipur on 23 July 1925. His father was Maulavi Muhammad Yasin Khan and mother Meherunnesa Khanam.
He went to Saint Gregory's High School. In 1944, he came 12th in the matriculation examination. In 1948, he obtained 4th position at the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination. He obtained a BA degree with honours in economics from Dhaka University.
