The nation yesterday observed the 'National Energy Security Day-2018' across the country aimed at saving energy with efficient use and preventing misuse of the natural resources.
On the occasion, Energy and Mineral Resources Division organized a seminar at Petrocentre in the city with energy and mineral resources secretary Abu Hena M Rahmatul Munim in the chair. Prime Minister's Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Dr Tawfiq-e- Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram spoke as the chief guest, while Chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Md Akram Al Hossain and Chairman of Petrobangla Abul Mansur Md Faizullah were present as special guests.
In the beginning of the seminar, one minute silence was observed marking the national mourning day to commemorate Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members, who were brutally killed by a section of derailed army officers on August 15, 1975. Petrobangla General Manager (Contract) Shahnewaz Parvez presented keynote paper on 'Oil & Gas Exploration Opportunities in the Offshore Areas of Bangladesh under Production Sharing Contract (PSC)' and General Manager of Padma Oil Company Limited (Project) M Aminul Haque presented 'Petroleum Pipeline Network in Bangladesh'.
The advisor said the government gave the highest importance on fuel and energy saving through efficient use of valuable natural resources alongside preventing energy wastage. The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, decided to observe this day as 'National Energy Security Day' since 2010, following the path of development by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said.
