At least 12 cattle markets have been brought at a single spot in Ashuganj which has created abuzz just before a few days of Eid-ul-Azha.

The Asian Age Correspondent found that Ashuganj Prime Bazar, Talshahar hat, Bazar chartala, Lalpur, Saydur Market, Sailo Bazar, Dagarisar hat, Chenga-mura Hat, Baratalla hat are the biggest cattle markets of the area.

The seasonal traders gathered from different places of the country by highways and river ways at the spot. The supply of small and medium-sized cow is comparatively more than the last year. Each cattle is being sold for Tk 40,000 to 120,000.

Kamal Hossain from Charchartala village has come to buy a sacrificial cattle in Ashuganj Bazar said, 'The price of cattle is natural this year, so the price did not increase.' Cattle vendor Masudur Rahman said, 'He expects to gain profit this year, but due to high cattle food prices he could not gain much this year.'

Some buyers who came to the market said, 'The price is not very high yet. However the best aspect of the animal hats is that the cattle of Ashuganj have been naturally fattened.'

Arman Hoque a businessman of Ashuganj goat hat said, 'Two to three thousand cow and goats were sold in every market. So far the import of Indian cows and strict surveillance in the border is expected to bring better prices this year.' Farm owners of Ashuganj are hoping to get better prices this year.

Ashuganj Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Asiruddin said, 'Farm owners prepared lot of cattle, sheep and goats in Ashuganj upazila of the district this year. Farm owners have been advised and supervised not to use any kind of medicine by Animal Resources department.'

Police Super Md Anwar Hossain Khan, BPM, PPM said, 'Police strengthened the patrol to protect the buyers and sellers.'
