A medical student on Friday confessed to police that she chopped off her former husband's head and dumped it in a dustbin at a motel's room in Khulshi area of the port city. Additional Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Amena Begum disclosed the hair-raising story at a press briefing at its headquarters on Saturday.
On August 17, police recovered a throat-slit body of victim Md Mainuddin, alias Shahriar Shuvo, 29, son of Sirajul Islam of Balirchar village in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni district. Later in the day, police detained accused Rokhsana Akhtar Popy, daughter of Abu Ahmed in Mirsarai upazila, and a student of a Chinese medical college, from Alfalah area of Khulshi.
While disclosing the spine-chilling description of the murder, Popy told police that Mainuddin had developed an affair with her six years ago, and they eventually got married after three years of their relationship. But, they could not continue their marriage and got divorced two years later due to a family feud. She later went to China to study medicine, Popy told police.
Quoting Popy, police said after their divorce, Mainuddin posted some photos of their private moments on Facebook by creating a fake account and shared those tagging her. Angered over with the matter, Popy returned home on August 15 with a plan to kill Mainuddin.
The next day, she along with her former husband Mainuddin rented a room at the motel near Foy's Lake. Later at night, she chopped off Mainuddin's head with a knife and dumped it wrapped in a plastic bag into the dustbin of the motel room and fled, said police.
Police also seized a mobile phone, a black moneybag, a wristwatch and some other materials used by Mainuddin as evidence, said the CMP additional commissioner.
