Separate courts in Dhaka on Sunday granted bail to 40 private university students, accused in separate cases filed over vandalism and attacks on police, during the student movement demanding safe roads.
Mashad Mortuza Bin Ahad, Sakhawat Hossain Nizhum, Shihad Shahriar, Azizul Karim Antor, Mehdi Hasan, Foyez Ahmed Adnan, Noor Mohammad, Zahidul Haque, Iftekhar Ahmed, Mohammad Hasan, Redwan Ahmed, Tariqul Islam, AHM Khaled Reza, Reza Rifat Akhlaque, Rashedul Islam, Shohagh Khan, Mashriful Alam, Tamal Samad, Mahmudur Rahman, Mahabubur Rahman Naim, Omar Siam, Iqbal Hasan, Naimur Rahman, Minhazul Islam and Mushfiqur Rahman are among the 40 who secured bail.
Of them, eleven were accused in a case filed with Badda Police Station, seven in another case filed with BhataraPolice Station, nine others in three cases filed with Dhanmondi Police Station, three each in a case filed with Uttara West, Ramna, New Market and Kotwali police stations and one in a case filed with Paltan Police Station.
A number of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates, including AKM Moinuddin Siddiqi, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero and Mohammad Sarafuzzaman Ansari, granted bail to them after hearing their separate bail petitions.
Many private universities were arrested in separate cases filed with Badda and Bhatara police stations on the ninth day of the road safety movement on August 6. Later, they were denied bail several times.
