Madrasa student found hanged in Chattogram

A 12-year-old student was found hanging at a madrasa in Chattogram's Halishahar area. Shahriar Alam, resident of Foam Market Goli area at port city's Enayet Bazar Jubilee road, was a student at Mahdlatul Ummah Hafizia Madrasa.

The madrasa authorities claimed the boy killed himself while the family says he was murdered. Ashiqur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Double Mooring Police, told that the madrasa authority found him hanging inside a bathroom around 11:30pm on Sunday. "The body was hanging from the ceiling fan with a lungi. The authority said that Shahriar used to wear the lungi."

The Madrasa authority took the body to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead, said Alauddin Talukder, assistant sub-inspector of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost. The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Police have detained madrasa chief Monir Hossain for questioning over the incident.

"Madrasa authorities claimed that, it was a case of suicide. An initial investigation concurs. We will know more after we receive the autopsy report," said Mahfuzur Rahman, chief of Halishahar Police Station.

"We do not believe in authority's claim," Shahriar's aunt Sultana Akter told "Several wounds were seen on the body. It seems he was beaten. We will take a legal action."
