Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said the government is providing special focus on education since it the "main tool to develop Bangladesh and implement present government's Vision-2021, Vision- 2041 and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).""The government is working to create educated people. If people are educated, the country will become developed easily," he said.
The minister came up with the observations while addressing as the chief guest at a function organized on the occasion of handing over scholarships among students of higher secondary level by Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indore Stadium yesterday morning.
Presided over by DBBL governing body chairman Sayem Ahmed, the function was attended by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq as the special guest. Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir also addressed the function, among others.Anisul Huq said the present government considers education as the main tool to build poverty-free Bangladesh.
"We are giving special priority on education to raise educated and efficient human resources to implement our government's Vision-2021 and Vision-2041. Today's students will run the country in future. So it is our duty to take proper care to develop their talents," he said.
The law minister urged the guardians not to marry off their daughters before 18, saying, give them chance to complete graduation degree.Dutch-Bangla Bank awarded scholarship to 3,031 students who passed SSC/equivalent examinations in 2018 and studying at HSC level in different colleges of the country.
Dutch-Bangla Bank, under its social cause program, has been awarding scholarship to the meritorious students in need of financial aid studying at higher secondary and graduation levels. Under this initiative, a total number of 53,710 students got DBBL scholarship among which 18,580 students of different levels are receiving the scholarship at present.
AMA Muhith profusely lauded the scholarship program of Dutch-Bangla Bank and recalled other philanthropic activities of the bank. He appreciated the DBBL's continuous humanitarian and welfare activities and termed this scholarship program as a unique example of helping the meritorious and needy students of the country. He expected that all the corporate bodies of the country would come forward with such programs for the benefit of the society.
Fazle Kabir, in his speech appreciated the scholarship program of DBBL and hoped that DBBL's continuous support to the meritorious but needy students will eventually contribute to the human resources development of the country. He also congratulated the students who got DBBL's scholarship.
Sayem Ahmed said that Dutch- Bangla Bank started this scholarship when it noticed that there are a lot of students who did not receive fair chance, despite showing academic talent, for economic, demographic and societal reasons; they are not able to pursue their dreams. They are not lacking in merit, but lack of the resources to use their merit. He added that this ceremony will transform and empower students to do more.
The chairman extended his gratitude and thanked to the all the guests for attending awarding ceremony. Abul Kashem Md Shirin, Managing Director and CEO of the bank congratulated the scholarship awardees and gave vote of thanks.
