Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya visited flood-affected Naria upazila under Shariatpur district yesterday.
He talked to the local people and administrative officials about the plight of the flood-hit masses of that area. Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya assured the inhabitants of Naria about all sorts of assistance from the government to recover them from the damages caused by floods.
Relief goods were distributed among the dwellers of Naria upazila who have been hit hard by the ongoing river erosion.
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said that the government is pledge-bound to protect the country's people from river erosion through effective measures. Awami League's Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque MP was present at that time.
He said that the government has taken the situation of Naria into special consideration. BM Mozammel Haque further said that the government has already allotted 1200 crore taka to regulate Padma river. Many more initiatives would be materialized to stop river erosion in Naria and in other parts of Bangladesh including Shariatpur, he added.
BM Mozammel Haque said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina views Shariatpur as one of her closest areas. People of Shariatpur believe in the ideology of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, BM Mozammel Haque stated.
He told that Sheikh Hasina has given directives to the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to aid the people of Naria and to protect Naria from further river erosion. Awami League's Organizing Secretary Enamul Haque Shameem and some other senior party members were present at that time.
