"I'd been a single mom for around 7 years. After the divorce, my son Tinju and I began our journey together. We were in Singapore where I had meagre savings and no confidence, but a purpose to start over. We moved to a shared flat -- I'd drop him off at daycare, work, pick him up and come home.
I remember the first day, we saw the sky together...we knew it was a new lease on life. I worked hard and repaid my debts - I even managed to buy my parents a house. As my journey towards loving myself began, I met him. Ashwin had put up a video playing my favorite song cover on FB - I messaged, complimenting him and we began talking. I became a teenage girl again. I'd be on the phone all the time - my son thought his mom went mad.
When I told Ashwin I'm a single mom, he said 'Wow.' Any other man would've run, but he was different - showing only respect. We fell in love. He even bonded with Tinju and taught him how to play the guitar over Skype!
One day, Tinju asked me why I wasn't getting married, so I said because I hadn't found his role model...he replied 'Ashwin is my role model' -- I called Ashwin and told him all of this. The next thing he said was, 'Can I marry his mom?' -- and we were engaged! (excerpt)
