Villages are buzzing with only topic, which is upcoming 11th national election. People of Jashore-1 (Sharsha) are not out of that trend. They have been thinking of a better AL candidate in the next polls.
Vice president of Jashore District Awami League Sheikh Afil Uddin MP, Jashore District Al organizing Secretary and Benapole Municipality Mayor Ashraful Alam Liton have possibility to ask for nomination. But the dispute between them has led their possibility into a doubt and Freedom Fighter Abdul Mabud PPM has been in the best position for AL nomination.
Meanwhile the candidate of BNP could take the chance of this important border line seat bringing several AL candidates desire to gain the ticket. But the local people expect that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will choose the right person for Jashore-1 constituency exalting the values of our Independence War.
In that condition Bangladesh Sector Commanders Forum's executive member, former DG of Passport Department and Retd additional IG of Bangladesh Police Freedom Fighter Md Abdul Mabud PPM is in a favorable position for his devotion to Awami League.
Jashore 1 Constituency is consisted of 11 unions of Sharsha Upazila and Benapole Municipality. The number of total voters is 2 lakh 63 thousand and 688. Among these 1 lakh 31 thousand 533 are men and 1 lakh 32 thousand and 155 are female voters.
Bangladesh Awami League is above all parties under the criteria of popularity. Awami League has a reserve vote bank of 40 to 45 percent in Jashore 1. On the other hand BNP has 35 to 40 percent votes where Jamaat has 15 to 20 percent vote bank here according to the local presumption and previous polls history. Jatiya Party has only 2 to 3 percent vote in that comparison.
AL candidate Sheikh Afil Uddin defeated BNP candidate Jamaat leader Mawlana Azizur Rahman by 4,000 votes in 9th national polls in 2008. In 10th national poll Sheikh Afil Uddin was elected MP without competition for the second time.
In 1991 and 1996 AL veteran leader Advocate Tobibor Rahman Sardar was elected MP in Jashore-1 constituency. BNP candidate Alhaz Ali Kodor was defeated by Tobibor Rahman in extensive competition in 1991 and 1996. Sheikh Afil Uddin is two times MP but several allegations have been raised against him of occupying watery land, using power for self interest and fail to develop the education in the area.
BNP's expelled leader Mofikul Hasan Tripti, Sharsha Sadar Union's former chairman Abul Hasan Jahir, Jatiya Party Jashore District Organizing Secretary and Sharsha upazila president Akhtaruzz-aman are expecting to compete in Jashore-1 constituency. Six faces are covering the tea stalls rumors for the next polls competitors in Jashore-1.
The most popular face of Jashore-1 is Bangladesh Sector Commanders Forum's executive member, former DG of Passport Department and Retd additional IG of Bangladesh Police Freedom Fighter Md Abdul Mabud PPM. He is well-known as the true follower of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman.
Local people said to The Asian Age, 'If FF Abdul Mabud PPM holds the sail of boat in Jashore-1 the seat would find a better leader in future said the local people.' FF Abdul Mabud was never greedy for local power but drew the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's confidence and has become a reliable candidate.
FF Abdul Mabud PPM directly contributed for nationalizing Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Public College in Jashore. He contributed to repair Kajirber to Gorpara 10 km road, Kondorpopur to Vaina road development and Maternity &Child Hospital establishment.
He also helped establishing 50-bed Sharsha Upazila Health Complex's new building, 2000 new electricity connection, educational development of Gorpara Mohila College, Nizampur School and for Ramchandrapur Madra-sha development.
Mizanur Rahman of 11 no Nizampur Union said, 'I want a new face like FF Abdul Mabud PPM in Jashore-1 as the present MP and Mayor are in two different poles of politics and in long existing feud.' Rashidul Islam of Dihi union said to The Asian Age, 'FF Abdul Mabud is Prime Minister's reliable man with honesty. He helped developing this area by recommending to Prime Minister.'
7 no Kaiba union's former AL GS Robiul Islam said, 'Sharsha AL is divided now for two leaders. FF Abdul Mabud should get the boat symbol of development as he loves the local people and worked hard even if he was not a MP.'
FF Sawkat Ali said, 'If Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina nominates FF Abdul Mabud, we will fight for him like we fought in 1971.' On the other hand, Benapole Municipality Mayor Ashraful Alam Liton has been seeking nomination in this seat as he has hot connection with Jashore Zilla AL head Shahin Chaklader.
