''My father passed away when I was in class seven. He was a marine biologist. Being an active researcher by passion, he was always busy doing his job. But unlike most of the cases, I do not recall having any complaints against him being busy. Because I loved him for what he did and he always allowed me to take part.
It was he who taught me how to use slide calipers when I was only in class three! I remember him introducing me as his RA (short for Research Assistant) to his colleagues. Comical, it might be, but this sowed a seed of researcher inside me. I take great pride sharing a campus with the sharpest of minds around the country, but the lack of contribution to actual research work of this varsity also hurts me.
People here are always complaining about not having ample research facilities but the fact is if you set your brains to accomplish something then there is always a way. In my department we are trying to build up a culture of indulging in research work for the undergraduate students.
We are extremely lucky to have a helpful and enthused faculty. It's not like we are turning the world upside down overnight, but we are getting our fair share of experience before we enter our professional life. When people hear about my father, they try to be sympathetic.
The truth is though, I never actually miss him in that sense. Because I am trying to live up to my father's dream. People miss each other due to lack of interaction. But I feel like I am constantly interacting with my father through my work.''
