#MeToo hits Bangladesh

#MeToo, the worldwide movement against sexual abuse has now hit the country. Bangladesh-origin former Miss Ireland Maksuda Akhter Prioty's facebook post shows that she experienced sexual harassment in Bangladesh a few years ago.

Prioty is at present in Ireland. She has complained on her facebook page about a Bangladeshi businessman named Rafiqul Islam who is chairman of a renowned organization. At the same time Rafiqul Islam is chairman of Kayetpara union parishad in Narayanganj. Prioty has referred to Rafiqul Islam as a highly influential person. She has written in her facebook post,  "The man's name is Rafiqul Islam. Defamation cases may be filed against me after I post this allegation."

According to Prioty, she visited Rafiqul Islam's office three years ago to get her remuneration after acting in one of his products' advertisements. Prioty has stated that Rafiqul Islam abused her sexually that day inside his office. It was May 2015. Prioty has not yet received that payment, she added.

Prioty further said that she felt greatly humiliated after the occurrence but she was absolutely powerless to the influence and pomp of Rafiqul Islam. At that time Maksuda Akhter Prioty was current Miss Ireland.

Reportedly Rafiqul Islam has conveyed death threat to Prioty. She has written in her facebook post, "If anything happens to me or if I get killed then Rafiqul Islam will be responsible because he threatened to kill me three years back."
