Traffic technical unit in DMP to restore discipline

A new traffic technical unit is going to be added to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in order to bring back discipline in traffic management in the capital city by improving traffic signal.

Home Ministry's Additional Secretary (police and NTMC) has said the necessary human resources have been incorporated and additional manpower will be recruited to run the new unit properly.

The sources from home and cabinet ministries have said the government initiated a new project to bring DMP under solar power  automated traffic signal by 2016.

The traffic signal management is still being done manually in capital. As an integral part of the project, the traffic control centre will be equipped with modern machinery for quality control, trouble shooting and standard device.

As a result, it needs additional human resource. Under these circumstances, the new unit has been handed over to the traffic division of DMP, the sources said.

Earlier, the traffic division of DMP sent proposal of traffic technical unit and Police Head Quarters sent it to public security division of the home ministry. The unit will now come into operation soon.

After cross-checking the proposal by home and public administration ministries, it was sent to finance ministry asking approval on October 19 and the ministry gave clearance for 41 manpower. Finally secretary level committee approved the proposal on November 13, the sources said.
