3 DU students commit suicide in five days


Three Dhaka University (DU) female students reportedly committed suicide in last five days. The students committed suicide at their homes and we are yet to be informed by the families, said DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani in this regard adding they were, however, looking into the matters.

On Friday, a former DU English Department student, also a residential student of Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, Meher Nigar Dani committed suicide at her ancestral home in Jashore. The reason was the death was mistery veiled. Earlier on November 14, another DU female student Laila Anjuman Eva, 25, took her own life by looting her neck in Dhaka's Azimpur. Eva was a fourth year student of the Department of Nutrition and Food Science of DU. "She was living in the ground floor of a house in Sheikh Shah Bazar area of Azimpur with another student," said Khandakar Helal Uddin, Inspector (Investigation) of Lalbagh Police Station. 

On November 12, Fahmida Reza Sylvi, a DU second-year student of World Religion and Culture, committed suicide. Sylvi was an non-resident student of Shamsunnahar Hall. Police recovered Sylvi's body from a hostel at Manipuri Para of capital's Farmgate. Talking to his family, classmates and friends, it was found that there are many events in Silvi's life of living alone as  According to Sylvi's friends and family members, she had been undergoing a tough time. Meantime, the DU students raised their concern over the mental health issue.
